Standardized Housing Designs. Design services are tailored for the streamlined delivery of custom or derived homes from standardized plans taking pre-vetted, efficient, or catalogue blueprints and adapting them to specific site conditions and personal preferences.
This approach, often called semi-custom or derived design, leverages the efficiency of pre-approved designs while offering flexibility to modify exteriors, layouts, or materials, resulting in faster permit times and
reduced soft costs.
The Canadian federal and the BC provincial governments have recently published and are providing free, pre-
engineered, and pre-reviewed, adaptable blueprints to the public, builders, and developers. These plans are designed to be permit-ready to significantly shorten development timelines.
These designs work in concert with legislation introduced in November 2023 which enables more small-scale,
multi-unit housing, including town homes, triplexes and laneway homes, and require changes to local zoning
requirements to help build more homes faster.
Facilitating the streamlined adoption of standardized housing design involves reducing the time and cost of
construction through pre-approved, flexible, and often digital blueprints.
